The music of my Rhenish compatriot, the 19th century operetta composer Jacques Offenbach has inspired this little miniature suite of an imaginary operette, that I called "Jacques." Referencing a general characteristic of Offenbach's music, I was particularly interested in experimenting with meters. In fact all three movements of "Jacques" - "Symphonie," "Chant Électromagnétique," and "Valse" - are vibrating on different polymetric webs, traces of which sometimes appear in the foreground of the music. These metrical webs drive music that is in constant flux and from movement to movement shifts its focus of composition to a different set of musical parameters in order to create contrasting musical characters.
